History of Winter Park

Back in the 1930s, Winter Park Resort emerged as a ski destination, featuring its first ski run with lift access. Initially a quaint, family-run operation, it had a few enjoyable runs and a single lift. As more people got hooked on the new sport of skiing, the resort gained popularity and expanded to meet the growing demand.

The 1960s marked an exciting era of growth for the resort, as it underwent significant expansion by adding multiple lifts and enhancing the infrastructure at the base. This included the addition of the Balcony House and ski school building. Over the years, the resort, mountain infrastructure, and base area continued to evolve and expand.

By the 1990s, The Village at Winter Park Resort was developed, providing visitors with a convenient and centralized location for lodging, dining, shopping, and various activities. This development elevated the resort to a lively mountain village, making it an even more enticing destination for ski enthusiasts.
